Wallpaper – love it or hate it, has been around since before the middle ages. Just as designs in clothes, music or even food can dip in and out of fashion, so too does interior design. Wallpaper it seems is very much a la mode.
In these uncertain times of recessionary fears, falling house prices, unemployment and the constant stream of doom-mongering, there is still a lot of positivity and solace to be had in the knowledge that bricks and mortar are still a safe bet. The issue is, how to ensure that when the economy does take a dive, our homes are still a safe haven. If we are forced to sell, to let or even keep and wait for brighter skies, maintaining our homes to a standard is always wise – you never know what’s around the corner.
“Wallpaper these days is so much more sophisticated than it was” says Victoria Gwilliam of The Design Workshop Guildford. “The designing, printing, manufacturing of modern wallpapers is now handled in part digitally, more complex and sophisticated patterns can be repeated more efficiently, colour schemes are more innovative and the creative design can be tweaked using clever software.”
